Working within the mission, vision, values and person-centred philosophy of the Agency, the Intake Care Centre Counsellor provides the critical first point of contact for FSEAP clients, offering detailed clinical assessment, immediate clinical counselling support, and referral to ensure clients’ clinical needs are met. The job incumbent is a clear, skillful, and compassionate counsellor with well-developed counselling knowledge, boundaries, time management skills, and proficiency in collaborating in a team. It actively supports the Agency’s awareness and goals around diversity and inclusion.

Key responsibilities

Qualifications (education, experience, skills)

•    Master's Degree in Social Work, Counselling or Clinical Psychology or equivalent
•    Minimum one-year experience in a clinical setting 
•    Current active registration with a professional regulatory body for the province of BC: RSW, CCC or RCC
•    Knowledge of clinical psychotherapy models and techniques, for individuals, couples and families, including developmental and attachment theory
•    Familiarity with addiction and recovery theories and treatment
•    Familiarity with the legal system/legislation pertaining to child protection, the duty to warn criteria and the Personal Information Protection Act
•    Excellent intake, crisis intervention and assessment skills and the ability to develop flexible treatment plans that meet the unique individual needs of the client
•    Computer skills in a Windows/PC environment, including word processing, email and internet, client data management system and EAP Database.
•    Ability to provide cognitive-behavioral strategies for clients, including psycho-education, affect management, self-regulation, stress management and strategies to help manage depression and anxiety
•    Ability to integrate knowledge of therapeutic models and techniques into practice
•    Understanding of cross-cultural and equity issues
•    Ability to work independently and on a team
•    Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with social service system personnel and other community programs
•    Knowledge of community resources
